COACHING, THERAPY OR MENTORING: WHICH ONE DO YOU NEED?

At some point, most people realise they could use some support. The hard part isn't admitting it — it's figuring out what kind.

Therapy? Coaching? Mentoring? Consulting? They all sound helpful. They all involve conversations. But they are genuinely different — and choosing the wrong one for the wrong moment can leave you frustrated and wondering why it didn't work.

Let me break it down simply. No jargon. No judgment. Just clarity.

Therapy — when you need to heal

Therapy is for when something is affecting your ability to function. Depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, disorders — these need a licensed mental health professional. A therapist works with your past to help you understand and heal what has been hurt.

If you are struggling to get through the day, please start here. This is not weakness — this is wisdom.

I know this personally. After a pregnancy loss in 2013, I was clinically depressed. It took me two years to seek help. Please don't wait like I did.

Mentoring — when you need direction

A mentor has walked a path similar to yours and shares what they learned. They guide you based on their own experience. Incredibly valuable — especially in careers, entrepreneurship or navigating a specific industry.

A mentor says: "Here's what worked for me."

Coaching — when you need to move forward

Coaching is for when you are functioning well but know you could be better. You're not in crisis — but you're not quite moving forward either. You have more potential than you're currently living.

A coach doesn't share their own experience or tell you what to do. A coach unclutters what you don't need and helps you find the answer in yourself.

Coaching works with your present and your future. Not your past.

So — which one is for you?

Ask yourself honestly:

Am I struggling to function day to day? → Therapy first.

Do I need guidance from someone who has done what I want to do? → Mentoring.

Am I functioning well but feeling stuck, unclear or not moving forward? → Coaching.

And sometimes — the answer is more than one. Therapy and coaching can work beautifully alongside each other. Many of my clients have both a therapist and a coach, for different needs at different moments.

If you're not sure which one fits right now — that's okay. That's exactly what a discovery session is for. We figure it out together, and if coaching isn't the right fit for this moment, I'll tell you honestly.

Because the goal was never to sell you a service.

The goal is to help you move forward. 🌿
